Fondant Experiment

Mikah has finally rubbed off on me and I decided to experiment with Fondant.  I've wanted to work with fondant for a long time and finally did it.  I thought I should start small and do cupcakes. Also, the fondant recipe said that you could do cupcakes right away but you needed to let it sit overnight for cakes and sculptures.

I started by making the fonant from the recipe Mikah told me about from the blog My Bakingdom. The fondant worked well and it tastes pretty good. I put it aside and made cupcakes from the family birthday cake recipe: Hot Water Devil's Food Cake. Weird making cupcakes. I think I've only ever made them once or twice before. They turned out well. Just a little big so they overhang the cupcake cups.

I frosted the cupcakes with a thin layer of prepared frosting.  Next time I'll make my own frosting, but didn't have a lot of time because I had decided to have them for dessert for a dinner with friends and time was running short.

Once the cupcakes were frosted, I rolled out some fondant and cut into circles with a glass about the size of the cupcakes (if the tops of the cupcakes hadn't spread out over the top of their cups).  Then I made a bunch of little balls to put on top.  Claire helped me with the balls, which was very nice.  I like the look but they are very tedious to make, especially when your're in a hurry.

I was just a little disappointed with the edges of the cupcakes.  They looked a little ratty.  But over all I was very pleased with them and they tasted great and everyone said the fondant tasted like marshmallows.
