Thank you from Ohio

We received a lovely little thankyou gift from Lindsay, Eric and Henry.  They had come to visit Wyoming in January and stayed with us for a few days.  They gave us a basket filled with coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and quite a nice variety of cookies.

Bill and I spent the weekend drinking coffee and eating cookies, while reading and playing on the computer.  It was rather nice and we felt quite decadent.  At least I did.

Thanks for the gift. We loved having you! Looking forward to the next visit.

Best Breakfast Ever maybe

This morning I made one of the best breakfasts ever...well it didn't turn out the best because of a small shortage of baking powder, but it was still delicious.  Just a little more dense than usual.  But it can be the best breakfast ever:  Homemade coffee cake.  It's from a tried and true recipe.  We've been making it in our family for years.

The recipe is from Betty Crocker's Cook Book.  I inherited the cookbook from my mom, Geneil Collett Cook.  It's sad and tattered, but still my favorite cookbook.

I use the prize coffe cake recipe exactly as it's written.  I only make adjustments in the topping.

We always put sliced apples on top and then cinnamon sugar on top of that.  Not as much sugar as the Cinnamon Coffee Cake recipe calls for.  Just a couple of tablespoons and maybe a teaspoon of cinnamon.

When the girls were home, we would double the recipe and use a 9" x 13" pan.  With just Bill and me, we make a single batch.

It's best to eat it when it's just out of the oven, with butter.  But leftovers are wonderful also.

Blackmail

My daughters have resorted to blackmail to get me to add a post or two to my blog.  That would not usually work with me, but the blackmail will not only affect me but everyone that looks at their blogs.  They said they would not post any more blogs until I did.  And since I enjoy their blogs tremendously (as I'm sure everyone does), I decided I better acquiesce to their threats.

I was given a camera for Thanksmas because I told everyone that I couldn't update the blog because I didn't have a camara to take pictures with.  Now I can't use that excuse any longer.  I have taken some pictures.

Here is Bill enjoying Thanksmas.  (Mikah took all the Thanksmas photos so this may or may not be Thanksmas  but at least the tree is still up.)

Now I hope you're happy!

The End
