Best Breakfast Ever maybe

This morning I made one of the best breakfasts ever...well it didn't turn out the best because of a small shortage of baking powder, but it was still delicious.  Just a little more dense than usual.  But it can be the best breakfast ever:  Homemade coffee cake.  It's from a tried and true recipe.  We've been making it in our family for years.

The recipe is from Betty Crocker's Cook Book.  I inherited the cookbook from my mom, Geneil Collett Cook.  It's sad and tattered, but still my favorite cookbook.

I use the prize coffe cake recipe exactly as it's written.  I only make adjustments in the topping.

We always put sliced apples on top and then cinnamon sugar on top of that.  Not as much sugar as the Cinnamon Coffee Cake recipe calls for.  Just a couple of tablespoons and maybe a teaspoon of cinnamon.

When the girls were home, we would double the recipe and use a 9" x 13" pan.  With just Bill and me, we make a single batch.

It's best to eat it when it's just out of the oven, with butter.  But leftovers are wonderful also.

Note my new green napkins from Angela
